Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a powerful tool for exploring and addressing emotional and relational challenges. At Be Known, KAP offers a guided, therapeutic experience where the use of ketamine—administered in a comfortable setting—can help you break through mental and emotional barriers that traditional talk therapy may not always reach. Whether you’re working through sexual pain, desire discrepancy, or communication struggles, KAP supports deeper healing by fostering new perspectives and emotional connection. This modality is available for individuals, couples, and all relationship structures, including ethical non-monogamy and polyamory.

What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

KAP combines the therapeutic use of ketamine, a legal, safe, and well-researched medication, with psychotherapy to create a mind-expanding experience. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hours after treatment and last for up to 2 weeks. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement. Essentially, ketamine can help access parts of the mind where emotional healing is often blocked—offering relief from anxiety, trauma, and relational challenges.

During a session, ketamine works by calming overactive areas of the brain and allowing for deeper exploration of thoughts, emotions, and experiences. These sessions are carefully facilitated to ensure your safety, comfort, and progress toward your goals.

How many sessions will I need?

This process is highly personalized, with many individuals noticing initial insights and symptom relief after their first session. For some, a single session is sufficient to achieve their treatment goals. However, for those managing more persistent conditions like treatment-resistant depression or heightened anxiety, a series of 3 to 6 sessions is often suggested, with additional booster sessions available as needed.
